The one product we can't live without is concealer, it does it ALL. Helping us to look more awake, sculpted, and snatched. Even if we do makeup but no-makeup, we still use the concealer to cover a pimple or dark circles under the eye area.
The most important from all the make tips is the concealer application, therefore we made a list of hacks that will make your concealer application lot easier.
Choose the right shade
Whether you should go for a lighter shade, the same, or in the middle? Luckily we have the answer from the professionals. Ash K Holm is a Los Angeles-based makeup artist, who works with clients such as Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, says "If you want your concealer to blend in with your foundation for a natural look, I recommend matching the concealer with your foundation,” then she adds, “And if you want to use your concealer to highlight, I like to go one to two shades lighter than your foundation shade – highlighting will lift the face and reflect light,”
I personally always go for a shade lighter, to conceal the under-eye area, and for pimples, I use a shade same as my foundation.
Coverage is the key
Besides finding the right shade, what you need to get right is the coverage. If you want a bit more coverage go for creamy concealers, and if you want lighter coverage go for the liquid ones.
If you are prone to pimples and if you have dark circles always go opt for full coverage, but id you want to even out the skin tone and brighten your skin, then liquid concealer is ideal for you.
Apply in the right order
For the best flawless look, you need to apply the makeup in the right order. What does this mean?
Well, first of all, you need to start by preparing your skin, and most probably now you would think it's time for primer, but no. The first thing is washing your face, then cleanse and apply moisturizer and then primer. If you use a corrector apply it after the primer and then the foundation. So finally now it's time for our concealer, it is important to apply it after your foundation to avoid covering all the brightening and sculpting. To set your foundation and your concealer use a powder after liquids, as that will help them to set and stay in place.
Conceal your under eyes
You have probably seen on Instagram how the makeup influencers apply the concealer in a triangle shape, which is correct, however, don't forget to drag your concealer towards the tale of your brow which will lift and sculpt your eye. The secret weapon is to blend it with a damp makeup sponge so it melts into your foundation.
Apply concealer over your lips
The easiest way to fake a fuller pout is to contour your lips with a full coverage concealer. Apply the concealer all over your lips, covering the lip line, which will create a blank canvas, so that you can easily determine where your new lip line will be.
Cover your pimples with a concealer
The most common use of concealer is to cover pimples, but you may consider applying something else first. That is a green corrector, which you can apply to cover redness, then apply your foundation, and then the concealer. If it's still red, you can apply a little bit of powder, let it sit for 2-3 min and then dust it out.
Use it as an eyeshadow primer
Bring your eyeshadow game to the next level by using your concealer as an eyeshadow primer. Applying concealer on your eyelids before your eyeshadow, will create a clean base and conceal any darkness. Blend the concealer with a makeup sponge and then set it with a light dusting of powder to stop it settling in your crease.
You can also create a cur crease with your concealer after you have worked an eyeshadow into your crease, using a small flat angled brush. At the end of your makeup use the concealer to neaten any eyeshadow edges.
Contour your nose with a concealer
Apply two shades lighter concealer, on either side of your nose, then apply a darker shade of your contour kit (you can use cream or powder) along the sides of your nose bridge (like on the second picture above). Blend it with a makeup sponge and then set it with a bright setting powder to heighten the contrast.
Finding the right tools
Depends on what level of coverage you want, you can choose your tools for application. If you want light coverage, apply your concealer and then blend it with a damp makeup sponge, or if you want a little bit more coverage, use a concealer brush and then a makeup sponge to lightly buff out the corners.
Use concealer as a highlighter
In the picture above you can see in what areas you can use a concealer. Contouring without highlighting is nothing. The key areas to highlight are the under-eye, along the bridge of your nose, the center of your forehead, and underneath your cheekbones.
How to fix a cakey makeup
Simply use your prep spray, by spraying your makeup sponge or your makeup brush and then blend or press the concealer to add hydration. This will also reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Another way to use your concealer
If your foundation is about to finish, mix it with concealer, and then apply it to your face. If you want less coverage then add a little bit of moisturizer, and you are good to go.
So many ways to use the concealer, right? That's why we should never underestimate our concealer.
